Summary:
The Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program (the FP&S Program) is one of three grant programs that constitute the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) focus on enhancing the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. The FP&S Program provides financial assistance directly to eligible institutions for fire prevention programs and supporting firefighter health and safety research and development such as clinical studies that address behavioral, social science, and cultural research. This notice is for proposals under the Research and Development (R&D) Activity track only.

Award:
Up to $1,500,000 for 12, 24, or 36 months. R&D Activity, Early Career Investigator awards are limited to $200,000 per project year.
Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline:
One (1) application per institution is permitted; however, up to three (3) projects may be submitted under a single application.
Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. If you are interested in submitting, please send an email indicating your interest, how many projects you want to pursue, and the applicable project category(ies) for each project to preaward@boisestate.edu by 1 PM on January 31, 2022. You will be contacted if an additional internal review is needed.
Key Submission Dates:
- January 31, 2022 at 1 PM – Interest email due to preaward@boisestate.edu
- February 11, 2022 – Full proposal due to OSP Pre-Award
- February 18, 2022 – Full proposal due to Sponsor
Important Notes on Requirements:
- Cost share is required in an amount equal to 5% of the grant award. Requests for cost share must be submitted for approval by the respective departments, colleges, and DRED at least two (2) weeks prior to submission. Failure to do so will result in cost share not being approved.
- The eligible project categories for R&D Activity proposals are:
- Clinical Studies;
- Technology and Product Development;
- Database System Development;
- Preliminary Studies; and
- Early Career Investigator.
