National Science Foundation (NSF)

Summary:

The NSF Regional Innovation Engines (NSF Engines) program supports the development of sustainable, inclusive, and geographically diverse regional innovation ecosystems that advance key technologies and address pressing regional, national, societal and/or geostrategic challenges. Unlike traditional NSF funding models, the NSF Engines program aims to catalyze and deepen the interactions among regional stakeholders with the explicit goal of catalyzing the establishment of a sustainable and inclusive ecosystem. Intentions of the program are to drive economic growth, create and retain quality jobs, expand equitable pathways into careers, and strengthen national competitiveness and security. The mission of an NSF Engine must be clearly rooted in regional interests and reflect the aspiration that a regional innovation ecosystem can help build strong communities where all residents can thrive.
