This announcement provides an important update to the budgeting procedures during the Pre-Award submission phase for sponsored projects.
Effective immediately, faculty with appointments of less than 12 months who are eligible for off-contract compensation (i.e. summer salary) will now use only the variable fringe benefit rate when budgeting fringe benefits for committed off-contract months. This represents a change from previous practices, in which both fixed and variable fringe benefit rates were applied to salaries for both the academic year and the off-contract period.
This procedural update is intended to improve consistency with institutional policy and ensure more accurate cost projections in proposal budgets.
The Internal Budget Template has been updated to reflect this change and can be found on the Division of Research and Economic Development forms page.
