Summary
The Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) program supports the establishment and development of innovative biomedical research centers at Institutional Development Award (IDeA)-eligible institutions through awards for three sequential five-year phases. The purpose of the COBRE Phase 1 award is to build capacity in an area of biomedical research through the establishment of a center of excellence that helps develop a critical mass of investigators who are able to compete effectively for independent research funding and improve infrastructure in the center’s area of research.

Award
$1.5 million in annual direct costs, excluding consortium facilities and administrative (F&A) costs for 5 years.
Limited Submission Requirements and Timeline
One (1) application per institution is permitted.
Notice of Interest Process. Only proposals approved by the Division of Research and Economic Development may be submitted to this program. For such approval, the Principal Investigator (PI) must first submit a Notice of Interest to limitedsubmissions@boisestate.edu by 4 pm on June 9, 2025. The Notice of Interest must indicate the PI and Co-PIs, and a brief, one paragraph description of the proposed project.

- June 13, 2025 – Anticipated date applicants will be notified of approval
- January 23, 2026 – All final proposal documents due to OSP (anticipated)
