Join this two-part informational webinar and question-and-answer session to learn more about NSF’s Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems (POSE) program. Program directors will give an overview of the funding opportunity, and give new applicants high-level guidance on preparing and submitting NSF proposals.
About POSE
NSF is introducing a new program called “Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems” (POSE). The purpose of the program is to harness the power of open-source development for the creation of new technology solutions to problems of national and societal importance. Many NSF-funded research projects result in publicly accessible, modifiable, and distributable open-sourced software, hardware, or data platforms that catalyze further innovation. In some cases, an open-source product is widely adopted and forms the basis for a self-sustaining open-source ecosystem (OSE) that comprises a distributed community of developers and a broad base of users across academia, industry, and government. The goal of the POSE program is to fund new OSE managing organizations, each responsible for the creation and maintenance of infrastructure needed for the efficient and secure operation of an OSE based around a specific open-source product or class of products. The early and intentional formation of such managing organizations is expected to ensure more secure open-source products, increased coordination of developer contributions, and a more focused route to impactful technologies.

NSF Virtual Session with Vinod Lohani
Division of Graduate Education Program Director
Please join the Division of Research and Economic Development for a virtual session on Funding Opportunities at the National Science Foundation for Transformative STEM Graduate Education. Dr. Vinod Lohani, Program Director for the Division of Graduate Education at NSF, will discuss two STEM graduate education programs, namely, NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program and the Innovations in Graduate Education (IGE) program. The goal of the NRT program is to encourage the development and implementation of bold, new, and potentially transformative models for STEM graduate education training. The key elements of the NRT program include convergent research and training, inclusive workforce development, and institutional transformation. The IGE program is dedicated to: (i) piloting, testing, and validating innovative approaches to graduate education, and (ii) generating the knowledge required for the customization and implementation of the most successful, transformative approaches. Dr. Lohani will also briefly discuss the programs in the Division of Graduate Education that support the NSF CAREER program.
