Meet the Faculty!

  • Jeremy Graves, PhD

    Leadership Instructor

    Dr. Jeremy Graves is the asst. director of Professional and Continuing Education with the Division of Extended Studies at Boise State University. He is first-year faculty for the Community Impact Programs, a presidential initiative of Dr. Marlene Tromp at Boise State University.  He teaches leadership classes in the LEAD program and works with organizations on strategy, culture and generational synchronicity.

    He has taught classes, presented workshops and delivered keynotes on generations, generational diversity, team building, EQ, DISC, business and leadership. His greatest passion is working with multi-generational teams. He specializes in helping organizations discover keys to getting the most out of their generational teams. In addition, he excels at organizational development and cultural restructuring.

    In May of 2018 he completed his first book entitled Empower, Promote, Launch Repeat: Create a Culture of Generational Leadership Using 4 Core Strategies.

    Jeremy is married to his best friend, Stephanie, and they have two boys. They reside in Boise, Idaho, and enjoy spending time with family and friends. Jeremy is also an avid hockey fan and will use just about any excuse to take in a hockey game.

  • Mary Olson, PhD

    Leadership Instructor

    Mary Olson, PhD has over 25 years of experience in higher education. She is passionate about developing and empowering people to reach their full personal and professional potential. Toward that end, Mary has taught at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels and has facilitated numerous professional development workshops. While she has taught across academic disciplines, most of her teaching has been within the field of business, focused primarily in the areas of organizational communication and leadership. 

    Mary spent seventeen years teaching in the College of Business and the Department of Professional Studies at George Fox University. Most recently, she taught for five years in the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University, where she was recognized with three awards for exemplary teaching.  

    Mary’s PhD work focused in the area of adult education, specifically on the effective facilitation of learning. She utilizes a learner-centered, team-based approach to teaching and enjoys serving as a mentor outside of the classroom. 

    Mary is also a Gallup certified Global Strengths Coach, leveraging her extensive teaching experience to facilitate strengths-based personal and team development.

  • Tricia Burns, MBA

    Creativity & Collaboration Instructor

    Tricia Burns, MBA, is an adjunct instructor for Boise State University’s multidisciplinary studies program. She also provides leadership training through Boise State’s Professional and Continuing Education.

    Tricia has worked in training capacities for most of her professional career and is known for her engaging approach to workshop facilitation. In addition to higher education, Tricia has experience in healthcare and government agencies, providing training, needs analysis, program development, program management, grant writing and grant management. In addition, she has facilitated on-site custom training for PACE clients in city, county, state and federal agencies. Tricia’s life-long experience in small business brings a unique view and expertise to her leadership and business classes.

    Tricia earned her BS and MBA from Boise State University; the latter included elective courses in Grantsmanship and Instructional and Performance Technology.

  • Kimberly Burns

    Business and Professional Communication Instructor

    I have a Master of Arts in Communication with a focus on Instructional Communication and Rhetoric and 6 years of experience teaching at the college level. I have taught face to face, hybrid and online courses. In addition to my service at Boise State, I was the head of Marketing Communications Instructor at College of Western Idaho which included curriculum and course development, community partnerships, recruitment and internship placement. I previously taught at California State Sacramento (CSUS) and Los Rios Community College. I also had the pleasure of working in the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED), assisting with their Public Relations efforts.

    Professionally, I have worked in Public Relations, Marketing Communications and Digital Marketing for 10 years. I have been fortunate to work for some of the best agencies in Northern California with amazing clients (Beach Blanket Babylon, Ghirardelli Chocolate, Macy’s, Ice Rink in Union Square, San Francisco General Hospital – currently known as Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, American Pacific Mortgage, Kaia FIT, Sacramento Republic FC, DMV and California Office of Traffic Safety – just to name a few!)

    I am married to my best friend and we have four children. I have a 2.5 year old son, 13 year old stepson and twin stepdaughters who are 9 years old. We love to adventure, hike, BBQ and of course enjoy a good movie night at home!

  • Katie Soy

    Business and Professional Communication Instructor

    With a master’s degree in Organizational Communication from Washington State University, Katie’s educational background also focused on marketing and business communications. She’s worked as an adjunct instructor in communications, public relations, and interpersonal communications for 9 years for Lewis-Clark State College and Boise State University, respectively. As a Senior Marketing and Communications Manager with 10 years of marketing and copywriting expertise, Katie’s focused on developing marketing strategies, and award-winning campaigns for database marketing, sales enablement, and sales retention. Her work focuses on telling disruptive stories in business, integrating personal experiences with brand stories, and applying influence and persuasion strategies for entrepreneurs and organizations.

  • Rick Ritter

    Foundations of Entrepreneurship Instructor

    Rick Ritter serves as the Lab Director for New Ventures Lab, Inc. New Ventures Lab is a hybrid co-working facility located in Meridian, ID that is focused on “Turning Ideas into Businesses”.

    Prior to founding New Ventures Lab Inc., Rick served as the CEO/President of Idaho TechConnect, Inc. for eight years, Director of Technology Outreach at Boise State’s Technology and Entrepreneurship Center (TECenter) on the BSU West campus for four years. Rick received an ICON Award in 2018 and was named as a CEO of Influence in 2011 by the Idaho Business Review. He has worked extensively across the state with individuals and companies assisting them to discover the economic value of their ideas. Rick has more than 20 years of business incubation/assistance/commercialization experience. He has started and successfully operated five businesses (technology, construction, real estate development, consulting, non-profit). He has experience in federal and state government, university, non-profit and private sector arenas.

    Mr. Ritter has completed all coursework for an MPA degree from Boise State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Idaho. He resides in Meridian, Idaho with his wife, Terri. He has four grown children, thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild (so far).
