The Symposium on Civic and History Education

About Us

The Symposium on Civic and History Education (SCHE) is a collaborative group of Boise State faculty who are teaming up with community partners and colleagues from other Idaho universities and colleges to support Idaho teachers of History, Government and the other social sciences through a range of activities, including: an annual conference for all Social Studies teachers throughout the state that offers the opportunity to learn new ideas and teaching strategies, to connect with colleagues, to earn professional development credit and to be inspired. SCHE also maintains the present website with resource links, and we are in the process of creating a Guest Lecture Portal to connect teachers with Boise State University Faculty eager to give guest lectures on select topics.

Why SCHE?

As educators, we know how difficult it can be to find an intellectual community when we are physically and professionally isolated, especially when political and social divisions may leave teachers feeling embattled. For Idaho’s teachers, this challenge can seem overwhelming, especially in rural parts of the state. This threatens our communities’ ability to develop an active and informed citizenry that promotes democracy through education. The Symposium on Civic and History Education strives to support greater academic connections of like minded teachers dispersed across our great state of Idaho.
