Bio
Carter Merklinghaus joined the faculty of the sociology department in 2017. She studies the outcomes of military service on the life course, particularly in relation to substance use, which was the subject of her Master’s Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation. She has several articles published in the same area. Carter’s areas of study also include social psychology and gender studies with a focus on masculinity. She earned her BA in Sociology from Western Washington University in 2014 and her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2018.
