Graduate Students Participate in National Nutrition Day at Idaho State Capitol

March 6 isn’t just National Oreo Day, it’s also the day that Idaho legislators commemorated National Nutrition Month. This event, hosted in the capitol rotunda, featured 10 Idaho governmental and local community groups focused on nutrition, including the Idaho Hunger Relief Task Force.

Master of Public Health students Raigan Hetz and Oliver Thompson (both class of ’24) each worked as graduate interns with the Idaho Hunger Relief Task Force (IHRTF) this year. Hertz and Thompson showcased the Produce Prescription Program (RxFFV) which supports the broader “Food Is Medicine” initiatives used as interventions in public health worldwide.

The focus of the day was to inform legislators about the impact on health outcomes, as well as the economic benefits of the food prescription program. Meeting and networking with many other like-minded organizations at the exhibit was an added bonus, they said.

Thanks to Hetz and Thompson for representing the Master of Public Health program and Boise State!
