The Widening Gap: Health Disparities in the time of COVID-19

Dr. Desmond Banks explores early data on morbidity and mortality related to COVID-19, with an emphasis on demographic data which indicates health disparities.  The webinar examines real-time data while using the social-ecological model as a framework for discussion. Desmond Banks, MPH, Ph.D., is an online adjunct instructor at Boise State and works as Senior Consultant at Health Management Associates. He earned his Ph.D. in Public Health Policy from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

WICHC is a 10-county collaborative that represents expertise across the different sectors working within community health — dental, behavioral health, nursing, physicians, public health, hospitals, transportation, local government, and community-based organizations.

  • The Community Assessment combines qualitative and quantitative data from ~2,700 surveys, 26 citizen focus groups, and over 30 interviews with local non-profit, government, and business leaders to identify the priority needs and issues identified by residents.
  • The ALICE Report provides an understanding of the population who is Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) individuals and families in Idaho.
