Learning and Development

A culture of learning and development is an essential building block for a strong community, a skilled workforce, and a promising future. Lifelong learning empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

The following dashboards help better understand educational gains in the EIPH area.

Reading Fluency

The Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) is an assessment that measure a student’s ability to read that every Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders in the state completes. There is a pre-test in the Fall and a post-test in the Spring that allows schools to measure growth across students. This data is updates annually and reported by the State Board of Education. The following dashboard allows for comparison across districts in the EIPH counties.

High School Graduation Rates

Graduation rates are collected and reported by the State Board of Education. This data is updated annually. The four year graduation rate accounts for the percent of students at the school who complete their diploma in four years.

Learning Activities

In a representative survey of EIPH residents, respondents were asked to describe if and what kind of learning activities they participated in. Nearly two thirds (62%) reported participating in a learning activity. The most common description of those learning activities include self-directed online or in-person activities (61%). Activities were also commonly described as for professional development (33%) or a community-based opportunity for a hobby or interest (32%).

Those not participating in a learning opportunity most often said they did not do so because they were not interested (43%), a small portion indicated not participating because there were no opportunities close to them (18%).
