5 ½ Ways to Have a Fulfilling Summer

I have a habit of starting summer with a lot of ambition to accomplish so many things, but I quickly lose my motivation. Summer can be a chance to try new things, and refocus on things you already love. Here is some inspiration on how to have a fulfilling summer:

1) Spend time outside

The perfect summer weather gives you endless opportunities outside. You could have a lake or beach day with friends. Enjoy a nice hike to a waterfall or just a beautiful view. Go for a run or walk with a friend. Sunshine automatically makes you feel better. Enjoy this perfect weather while it lasts!

2) Volunteer

Volunteering is not only giving back to your community, but it’ll also give you a better sense of purpose. Giving back to people in your community can offer a greater sense of belonging. With no school, there is more time and opportunity to do things that are not as obtainable during the school year.

3) Roam around a bookstore and do some reading

For me, it almost seems impossible to read for fun during the school year. I read a lot for my classes, so I feel uninspired to spend my free time reading. Picking up a good book is a great way to get off your phone and enjoy a different source of entertainment. You could do this by the lake, in a hammock, in your backyard, in a coffee shop, really anywhere! Going to the library or a bookstore is a fun way to get out of the house to browse and pick up some books that pique your interest.

4) Explore a new hobby

It can be hard to find something that interests you and also something that you might suck at in the beginning. For me, painting is something that I am very bad at, but even then, you could follow a tutorial online, or just embrace the imperfection! While you are inevitably scrolling social media, you could find a new hobby that you’re interested in picking up IRL.

5) Find a local farmers market

Farmers markets are a great way to take in local offerings with friends or on a solo trip. From fresh produce to local coffee pop-ups to fresh floral bouquets, markets are filled with ways to connect with the community. The Boise Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from  9 a.m. – 1 p.m. April – October at 1500 Shoreline Dr.
