Is financial aid available for summer sessions?

Summer aid eligibility is determined by annual federal aid amounts that were unused during fall and spring semester. If you used all of your student loans during fall and spring, there will not be additional loan funding available. However, Congress recently restored year round Pell grant funding which allows eligible students to receive up to 150% of their annual Pell grant award. If you are Pell eligible, enroll in at least 6 credits toward your degree over the summer, and have not exhausted your lifetime Pell eligibility, there is additional Pell funding available. You will automatically be awarded Pell grant funds for summer once you register.

(Receiving the additional Pell Grant funds in the summer term will impact the amount of time a student can receive Pell Grants. The amount of Federal Pell Grant funds a student may receive over their lifetime is limited to the equivalent of 12 semesters of Pell Grant funding.)

Summer aid is awarded separately from fall and spring aid. It is based on the specific summer classes for which you register.

Can I use my Pell Grant in summer?

Year round Pell grant funding allows eligible students to receive up to 150% of their annual Pell grant award.

Is there a minimum number of credits needed for summer financial aid?

You must be enrolled in at least 6 credits (5 for graduate students) to be eligible for student loans in summer. In most cases, you must also be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for the Pell grant as well.
