Creative Writing Scholarships

Each year, the Creative Writing Program awards Glenn Balch Undergraduate Creative Writing Scholarships to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in fiction writing and a commitment to the study of fiction writing. Scholarship amounts vary year to year.

Who Can Apply:

  • Open to current fiction creative writing majors at Boise State. To apply, the student must consider themselves first and foremost a fiction writer and must have taken at least two fiction writing courses.
  • Must be a sophomore, junior, or a senior with one semester remaining before graduation.
  • Must have a 3.00 GPA or higher.

How to Apply:

  • Submit a complete short story or novel chapter. Submissions should be double-spaced in a standard 12 point font with 1 inch margins. Please do not include your name on your story or novel chapter. Submissions will be read anonymously.
  • Submit a 25O-word letter of application describing your goals as a writer and how this scholarship will make a difference for your writing and your studies.
