About the Scholarships
Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity (URSCA) Scholarships offered by the Undergraduate Research and Mentoring Institute (URM Institute) are paid, 12-week research experiences offered to undergraduate students during the fall and spring semesters for their research or creative activity.
Note: These scholarships were previously offered as the IFITS Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Scholarships.
These scholarships are open to ALL majors*, giving students the opportunity to gain meaningful research skills with a faculty mentor while working on a research or creative activity project. Recipients of the scholarship MUST have a faculty mentor nominate them for the scholarship. Selected recipients receive a $3,000 stipend, paid in installments. They are also required to present their research or a reflection of their creative activity.
Note that scholarship funding is limited and the selection process is competitive.

Application Eligibility
All undergraduate students in ANY MAJOR can apply:
- Be enrolled at Boise State for the semester for which you are applying.
- Plan to conduct research or creative activity during the semester for which you are applying. For example, if you plan to be working on your research project during Fall 2026, apply in late February-March 2026 (look at the ‘Important Dates’ tab for exact dates) to be eligible for the Fall 2026 award.
- The IFITS Undergraduate Research Scholarship is part of a student’s financial aid package. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, a student must have space in their financial aid package to receive this award. If you are unsure about your status, please be sure to connect with us to go over eligibility.
- Students who have already received the scholarship in a previous semester are eligible to receive it again. However, they must wait at least ONE SEMESTER (fall/spring) before reapplying.
- Projects by student organizations and clubs are NOT eligible.
