Presentation Guidelines
- The preferred poster size is 48 inches wide x 36 inches high (posters may not exceed this size).
- Each poster presentation will be provided with display backing.
- An overview of poster design and a poster template may be found at https://www.boisestate.edu/undergraduate-research/poster-presentations/
- Presenters are expected to be at their poster and available to discuss their research for the duration of their session at the showcase. There are two poster sessions, so all presenters will have the opportunity to view others’ posters during the second poster session.
- Fifteen students will have the opportunity to present their research in the plenary lightning-talk session.
- Students will have 3 minutes to present their research using one presentation slide.
- Students must be nominated by their faculty mentor(s). Each faculty member may only nominate one student to participate.
- A faculty committee will select the top 15 students to present their work in the plenary session.
- Students will be notified of the selection by February 28, and are encouraged to also submit a poster application.
You will be asked to provide the following information for the student you nominate:
- Students full name
- Student’s Boise State ID number
- A brief summary (100 word maximum) of the student’s research project
- Student’s previous oral presentation experience (e.g. in-class presentations, departmental, college-wide, previous Undergraduate Research Conferences, Idaho Conference on Undergraduate Research, regional/national discipline-specific conferences)
- Confirmation that the student is aware of their nomination and has agreed to present a lightning talk if selected.
- Confirmation that your project’s supervising faculty member(s) have approved your abstract
- Whether your faculty supervisor(s) approves publication of the abstract on ScholarWorks
- For each collaborator on your project:
- Name as it should appear in the showcase program
- Email address
- Whether the individual is a project supervisor (at least one faculty supervisor is required)
- Whether they have a doctorate degree
- Whether they are an Honors College student or a McNair Scholar
- Role AT THE TIME OF THE PROJECT RESEARCH: Undergraduate student, graduate student, faculty member, post-doctorate fellow, other (ex: industry professional, high school student, etc.)
- Affiliation for “other” roles (ex: other university, company for industry professionals, high school for high school students)
- Whether your project is affiliated with a VIP team; if yes, the name of the VIP team. Information on VIP teams may be found at boisestate.edu/vip/.
- Word (.doc or .docx) format of abstract reviewed and approved by faculty supervisor(s). An abstract is a short summary (150-200 words) of your research that describes the content and scope of your project. An optional abstract template is available. You may also view the sample abstract.
- Submitting student’s name (your name)
- Submitting student’s Boise State student ID number (your ID number)
- Names of all other project collaborators in the appropriate order; this order should be the same as that which you will list them on this submission form
- Project title
- 150 – 200 words excluding collaborator names, title, etc.
If you are uncertain of any of the above, please talk to a faculty member on your project.
Please note that you must fill out the following form in its entirety and ensure that it is submitted by 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on February 21, 2020.
Students: In general, it is a good idea to first check with your faculty research supervisor to see if they have the resources to help you get your poster printed. Listed below are other resources that are available by College/School so that hopefully, you do not have to pay out of pocket for this important event. Please check the instructions below depending on which college sponsored your research project (note – this is the college in which your faculty research supervisor works, not the college of your major).
College of Arts and Sciences
Please check with your faculty research supervisor and your home department for printing resources.
College of Business and Economics
The College of Business and Economics will print COBE students’ Undergraduate Showcase posters for free. Email a PDF at the actual size of your posters to Loraine Hand at lorainehand@boisestate.edu. Allow three business days for printing.
College of Education
The College of Education has a Bronco print card in the library to provide poster printing for Education students. Please contact Suzan Raney at sraney@boisestate.edu with your student ID number. She will let the people in the library know you have been approved and will contact you so you may print your poster.
College of Engineering
Please check with your faculty research supervisor and your home department for printing resources. If they are unable to assist you, then please contact Tim Welch in the Dean’s Office (TimWelch2@boisestate.edu).
College of Health Sciences
If students utilize the Boise State LIbrary for their printing needs, the School of Allied Health Sciences will cover the cost. Students should contact Kristy Grabert (Kristygrabert@boisestate.edu).
College of Innovation + Design
The College of Innovation and Design is very proud to have you participate in the Undergraduate Research Conference and will cover the cost of printing your poster if you use the Albertsons Library printer. Note that this is for all CI+D courses: VIP, HES, COID, B2C, or GIMM projects. To access: go to the circulation desk at the library and let them know you have a department funded poster to print. They will have an envelope with a list of the lead authors and a print card to give you. The print card is loaded with funds to pay for your poster printing. The instructions for using the library printers can be found on the Albertsons Library website.
School of Public Service
School of Public Service students participating in the Undergraduate Research Conference can have their posters printed at no cost to them through the Boise State sign shop. Students may contact the School of Senior Promotions Coordinator, James Munkres (jamesmunkres@boisestate.edu), for the required accounting code.
