Admission Requirements
Prior to commencing graduate study, applicants must hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution. Although no single field of undergraduate specialization is required for admission, applicants to the program should have an undergraduate degree that is appropriate to the emphasis area of interest. Applicants must also satisfy the minimum admission requirements for the Graduate College, which includes having an undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.00 (based on a 4-point scale).
Program Admission
Admission to the doctoral program is competitive and requires submission of the following application materials:
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended
- A brief personal statement (no more than two pages) describing the applicant’s academic and professional background, research experiences and interests, career goals, and motivation for graduate study. This statement should clearly state the study track(s) of interest and at least one Ph.D. faculty member as a prospective advisor.
- A current resume or curriculum vitae
- Three letters of recommendation from academic or professional references that address your preparation for graduate study
- (Optional) Office Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test scores. Although the GRE is option, it is highly recommended for students who may have weaknesses in other areas (e.g. GPA, prior research experience) or have transcripts from international schools.
International Applications
International applications must also satisfy the international admissions requirements.
Admission Decisions
Admission decisions will be made within four weeks after the deadline. Admission to the program will be based on a number of factors including the applicant’s academic record and research potential. In cases where the review committee identifies academic deficiencies in an otherwise strong applicant, a provisional admission may be granted.
Plagiarism
Important: the Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. Program has a zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism. Applications that are found to contain plagiarized material will be denied.
