Jacoba Rock (she/they), PhD, LCSW, is a clinical faculty member in the School of Social Work, and a Faculty Associate for the BUILD program. She is grateful for the opportunity to offer BUILD educational programming and consultations, recognizing the value of accessible, intentional, and collaborative steps toward equity and inclusion at Boise State. As an interdisciplinary educator, Dr. Rock has been advancing these efforts in the classroom and beyond, at undergraduate and graduate levels, since 2012. Their social work practice and applied research interests have focused on incarcerated youth and young adults, evaluating and developing micro and mezzo interventions based in evidence-informed assessment and advocacy.

Jacoba can assist you with:

  • Learning about, developing, implementing, and advancing:
  • Inclusive pedagogy and course design, such as collaborative and culturally responsive teaching, flexible assessment and alternative grading, accessible and diversified course materials, and interactive learning
  • Trauma-informed teaching and leadership practices that focus on transparency, trust-building, collaboration, and empowerment
  • Anti-racist teaching practices, such as critical pedagogy, intersectional teaching, and community engagement
  • Responding to microaggressions and navigating difficult conversations in the workplace and the classroom
  • Using conflict resolution skills, such as restorative approaches, to address and resolve conflicts in the workplace and the classroom
  • Supporting students and colleagues of color, those who identify as LGBTQIA+, those with physical and cognitive differences, those who are first-generation students and academics, and those who are formerly incarcerated and/or court-involved
  • Helping students and colleagues to access campus and community resources
