Video Transcript – Student Employability Fund at Boise State University

Video Transcript

[Michelle Juarez, Boise State graduate, Psychology]: As the first person in my family to go to college, it was always important to me to do the right things to achieve my current goals. As a result of participating in the Work U program, I was offered a dream job at Make-A-Wish Idaho when I graduated. My Work U experience did so much for me. I learned about my skills, my strengths, and I gained experience and professionalism that I wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s an experience that everyone should have.

[Nick Van Santen, Associate Director, Experiential Learning]: Hands-on learning experiences outside the classroom are transformational for our students and are often critical for securing professional employment. Unfortunately, some of our students are excluded from these experiences because they are unable to participate in an unpaid opportunity.

[Michelle Juarez]: I did have to work to support myself, and it was difficult balancing a job, an internship, and full-time classes, all at the same time. I was lucky because my job was pretty flexible and I was able to get by, but for other students, there’s just no way to do it. Having a scholarship would allow more students to get the experience they need to start their careers.

[Nick Van Santen]: With the Student Employability Fund, we want to provide access to these critical opportunities so that all of our graduates are employable. Help us make sure these opportunities are available to all our students by giving to the Student Employability Fund today.
