Boise State University Department of English Graduates, Kerri Webster and Nicole Cullen will be reading some samples from their current works at the Modern Hotel and Bar.
The Modern Hotel and Bar continues to develop it cultural side with the second installment of its new literary series Campfire Stories in 8-10 p.m. July 14. It’s a reading series developed by writer Christian Winn that pairs Idaho writers — from poets to novelists — who read samplings of their work in the Modern’s courtyard patio.
This second installment of the summer series will feature writer Nicole Cullen and poet Kerri Webster. Both writers earned their undergraduate degrees from Boise State University.
Cullen grew up in Salmon, then went on to earned her master’s writing from the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas-Austin. She was 2011-2012 Carol Houck Smith Fiction Fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and a 2012-2014 Stegner Fellow at Stanford University. Her short story, “Long Tom Lookout,” which first appeared in The Idaho Review, is forthcoming in The Best American Short Stories 2014. You can read her account of writing “Banner Creek Summit,” an essay about a trip to her home town which appeared in Plowshares.
Kerri Webster is the author of Iowa Prize-winning “Grand and Arsenal” and “We Do Not Eat Our Hearts Alone,” a collection that won her the 2011 Whiting Writer’s Award. She also is the recipient of a Crazyhorse Emerging Writer Prize and Residency and her poems have appeared in numerous journals including The Boston Review, Indiana Review, and Handsome.
