Music professor Del Parkinson and Jeffrey Shumway, known as The American Piano Duo, will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Admission is $7 general, $5 for seniors, and free for students and Boise State faculty and staff with ID.

Parkinson is a professor of piano in Boise State’s Department of Music and Shumway serves as professor of piano at Brigham Young University. The duo met while attending the acclaimed Juilliard School of Music in New York. They formed The American Piano Duo in 1984 and have performed together throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe.

The Feb. 5 program, “Americana Celebration,” features three iconic works by American composers: Copland’s “Billy the Kid,” Bernstein’s “West Side Story,” and Gershwin’s “An American in Paris.”

“Each work in this delightful, audience-friendly program is descriptive and tells a story,” Parkinson said.  “Listeners will enjoy this toe-tapping music of tuneful, familiar classics!”
