Manda Hicks received a Top Four Paper award in the communication theory division of the Western States Communication Association held Feb. 28 in San Diego, California. Hicks’ paper, “Negotiating Gendered Expectations: The Basic Social Processes of Women in the Military,” identifies expectations regarding life choices, sexual agency and ability as central components affecting the experiences of women in the military.
