First Folio Mystery Finally Revealed

picture of Shakespeare's First Folio bookIn August and September more than 7,000 people flocked to see Shakespeare’s First Folio at Boise State. Throughout the month-long exhibition visitors often asked about the history of the particular book that was on display, but for security purposes those details had to be kept under wraps, until now.

On Nov. 19 at the opening reception for First Folio! Shakespeare’s National Tour at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C., library officials learned that the book on display at Boise State was Folger First Folio number 77, also known as the “Ingleby Copy.”

Each First Folio in the exhibition at the Folger is open to one of the 18 plays by Shakespeare that would have been lost if the book had not been published in 1623.
