Boise State Artists Take Home Top Awards at BAM Triennial Exhibition

Boise Art Museum currently is celebrating the talents of 24 artists living and working in Idaho with the 2017 Idaho Triennial, on display now through July 16. Of the 180 Idaho artists who applied, only 24 artists were selected to participate in the Triennial, and 18 have ties to Boise State.

This year’s guest juror, John D. Spiak, the director and chief curator of California State University’s Fullerton’s Grand Central Art Center (GCAC) in Santa Ana, selected three juror’s awards, all of whom went to artists with Boise State connections. In addition, six artists were selected for the Artist Lab Award – five of whom had ties to the university. Congratulations to the following artists:

Juror’s 1st Place Award – $1,000
Ashley Carlson (Boise) – “Hollister, ID 83301,” 2015, graphite and oil on Stonehenge paper
Carlson graduated from Boise State with a BFA in Visual Arts, Painting and Drawing, in 2016.

Juror’s Merit Award – $500
Inna Raw (Meridian) – “Woinshet Crawling,” 2015, archival pigment print
Raw is a current Boise State student completing a BFA in Graphic Design, and a BFA in Visual Arts, Photography.

Juror’s Merit Award – $500
Reba E. Robinson (Boise) – “Floating Worlds V” from the Reconfiguration Series, 2014, ceramic, glass, and mixed media
Robinson formerly attended Boise State.

For the Artist Lab Awards, each artist will be creating artwork and engaging with visitors in the museum at scheduled times throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Artist Lab Award – $250
Brooke Burton (Boise)
Burton is a Boise State adjunct instructor and alumnus with an MFA in Visual Arts.

Artist Lab Award – $250
Goran Fazil (Boise)
Fazil earned a BA History of Art and Visual Culture from Boise State.

Artist Lab Award – $250
Pete Kutchins (Boise)
Kutchins is Boise State’s Sign Shop supervisor and an alumnus with a BFA in Graphic Design.

Artist Lab Award – $250
Lily Martina Lee (Boise)
Lee is an assistant professor of sculpture in the Boise State art department.

Artist Lab Award – $250
Bryan Anthony Moore (Nampa)
Moore is an alumnus who earned his BFA in Illustration at Boise State.

Organized every three years, the Idaho Triennial is a juried exhibition bringing together exemplary works of art created by a broad selection of Idaho artists. For the last 80 years, BAM has celebrated the creativity of artists living and working in Idaho, and the museum’s series of biennial and triennial exhibitions has become a respected and treasured tradition.
