On Friday, Sept. 8, the Aulos Ensemble offers a free preview of the formal evening concert opening the 2017-18 Boise Chamber Music Series. The free event will take place from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Morrison Center Recital Hall at Boise State University.
In addition to the music, the Aulos Ensemble will discuss the historical instruments they use, explain the differences between baroque and more contemporary performances, and answer audience questions.
The Aulos Ensemble includes Christopher Krueger, flauto traverso and recorder; Marc Schachman, baroque oboe; Linda Quan, baroque violin; Myron Lutzke, baroque cello; and Arthur Haas, harpsichord.
Formed in 1973 by five Juilliard graduates, the Aulos Ensemble was at the forefront of a movement to capture the imagination of the American listening public. In 1978 with the release of their recording, “Masterpieces of the High Baroque,” Aulos’s reputation for exhilarating performances informed with scholarly insight was firmly established. With its conservatory based training, Aulos brought an uncompromising standard of excellence in performance that resulted in invitations from virtually all of this country’s major chamber music presenters. This exposure helped create a new audience awareness for the rich rewards of this repertoire performed on period instruments.
