To celebrate the success of the on-campus exhibition “Art Acts,” a closing reception will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in the Student Union Fine Arts Gallery. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
The exhibition runs through Dec. 13.
“Art Acts” exhibits a selection of current and former students’ work; this show celebrates work created in the first two years of Art 373/473: Interdisciplinary Studio. The emphasis of the class is video, cross media and interdisciplinary projects including installation, sound and performance. Like the students who created the work, the audience will be encouraged to imagine using the camera as another bodily organ to analyze recorded sounds in a location and to view the world around them in new ways.
“Art Acts” shows a sampling and range of undertaken by selected current and former students. It presents video projection, screen-based work, objects and installations, and includes collaborative projects requiring a community engagement component. The work explores connections between fashion and art in an installation format, to videos of live performances. One sculptural piece combines video and object to critique current uses of social media such as YouTube’s “unboxing” phenomenon.
Confirming the usefulness and relevancy of an arts background, alumni from this class are actively working in diverse roles throughout the community, from launching the new Gem Center for the Arts to making work on immigration and refugee issues, working as a videographer and working as a corporate photographer.
The Student Union Exhibition Series is a program of the Boise State University Student Union within the Division of Campus Operations. The series features 10 months of exhibitions by students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community artists in traditional and pop-up gallery environments.
The Student Union Trueblood Gallery is located at 1700 University Drive on the second floor of the Student Union Building. Admission is free to all students, faculty, staff and community members. Parking is available for an hourly fee in metered spaces and in the Lincoln and Brady garages.
