The MFA in Creative Writing at Boise State University will present filmmaker Sandy Stern at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, in the Student Union Building, Hatch Ballroom A. The presentation is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m. No tickets are required.
Stern is best known for his work on “Velvet Goldmine, Saved!” and “Being John Malkovich,” a cult classic that won numerous awards, including the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature and the Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Screenplay.
Stern founded the production company Single Cell with R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe and actor Sean Penn. His most recent films include “Class Rank” and “The Philosophy of Phil.” Stern was born in New York City and he attended New York University, where he completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. He went on to pursue filmmaking at Vassar College. Currently he resides in Los Angeles, California.
