The Intermountain Bird Observatory at Boise State University, in partnership with the College of Western Idaho, Golden Eagle Audubon Society, and Idaho Fish and Game, is looking for volunteers to help plant 2,000 native plants at the Boise River Research Station beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.
The goal is to improve habitat for pollinators and birds in this wildlife-rich area on the Boise River just east of the Diversion Dam.
Organizers say they’ll need a lot of help — kids and families are welcome, as are local service organizations, students who need community service hours, and anyone else with a love for our local flora and fauna. Planting will be done by hand and will require hiking, digging, bending, kneeling, etc. Training and tools will be provided, though volunteers are welcome to bring favorite shovels, garden trowels or other tools.
