A lobby exhibit at Albertsons Library commemorates the end of the “Great War” — World War I. It explores the lives of average soldiers in the trenches of the Western Front that ran through Europe.
History professors David Walker and Joanne Klein worked with graduate students Hayley Noble and Mischa Bradley to create the exhibit which will run until Nov. 29.
Artifacts include a rest for a trench mace (a weapon used in combat), photographs, helmets, an infantryman’s poem reflecting on the nature of war, and more. Organizers say the the intent of the exhibit is to relegate politics to the background “in favor of the voices of the men who endured, the men who returned broken and the many who did not return at all.”
Walker will give a talk on the exhibit at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Frank Church Room on the second floor of Albertsons Library. All are welcome.
