Davina Snow, lecturer of ASL and ASL section head in the Department of World Languages helps find a new interpretation for the musical “Hamilton.” Snow consulted the four American Sign Language interpreters who provided sign language translations for deaf and hard of hearing audience members on theatrical interpretation.
Jake King quotes Snow in the Idaho Press article “‘Hamilton’ gets a different interpretation”: “I’ve never seen ‘Hamilton’ in ASL. I’ve never seen it in my language which is what is most comfortable for all of us, the language we grew up with. Just like other people sitting in the audience who are watching in their first language from the actors; I understand it, but there’s a level of comfort in your primary language that I am really looking forward to being able to access.”
