“Public History as Critical Civic Engagement During the Era of Divisive Concepts” with Trinidad Gonzales

Public Lecture by Dr. Trinidad Gonzales, professor of History and Mexican American Studies at South Texas College, at 6 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2023, at Hemingway Center, Room 110. In his talk, “Public History as Critical Civic Engagement During the Era of Divisive Concepts,” Gonzales will speak about his family’s history, his role in the creation of the Refusing to Forget public history project, and other public history activities he engaged to bring the history of state-sanctioned violence against ethnic Mexicans during the 1910s. Gonzales will also meet with interested students while he is in Boise. Gonzales’s talk is co-sponsored by the HSSI, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, the AntiRacism Collective, and the Human Rights Certificate program.
