Public Accounting Firms

Boise State University is ideally located in the heart of Idaho’s capitol city. Because of our location, students enjoy easy access to local, regional and national CPA firms. Many of these accounting firms frequently recruit from our Accountancy program, often coming to campus during the peak of fall recruiting season. In addition to the firms on this list, many of our alumni work for corporations large and small, not-for-profit groups and government agencies. Many of these employers also visit campus throughout the year–on an as-needed basis–to recruit and interview potential candidates.

Getting involved with an accounting student organization while you work on your degree can provide exposure to the local firms and help you familiarize yourself with the recruiting process. Joining Beta Alpha Psi or the CFE club gives you a way to meet the firms in the area while in a low-stress environment. Get involved in a student organization now >>

A Note on CPA Firms

Unlike many career fields, the recruiting process for CPA firms is fairly standard across the industry. CPA firms generally interview for entry-level positions once a year—every fall. So if you are interested in working in public accounting, you must interview in the fall for jobs to start the following January (for December grads) or the following August/September (for May or August grads). Many students are surprised to learn that they must begin recruiting for jobs within a few weeks of starting their final year.

CPA Licensing Requirements

In Idaho, CPA licensing requires 150 credit hours. For this reason, many students go on to earn a master’s degree. To start your career as a public accountant on the right foot, consider applying for the MSA program (or Idaho’s only MSAT program) at Boise State. By doing so you will not only meet your licensing requirements, but you will also continue to develop the professional network that you initiated as an undergrad.
