Garrett A. McBrayer, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Department of Finance in the College of Business and Economics. After an eight-year stint in the private sector, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas in 2015 and joined the faculty at Boise State in the fall of 2015. Garrett’s research specializes in corporate social responsibility, information asymmetry, corporate finance, and investments, with a particular focus on firm transparency and financial contagion. His latest work examines such topics as the spillover valuation effects of credit rating changes on equity markets, the impact of firm transparency on the firm’s cost of capital, and the global integration of financial markets.

Professor McBrayer’s research has been featured internationally in various academic journals and conferences. He has been awarded or nominated for multiple honors and awards, such as Boise State University Athletic Department Faculty Coach for a Game, Idaho Business Review Excellence in Finance, Idaho Business Review Accomplished Under 40, Boise State Golden Apple Teaching Award, and the Doctoral Academy Fellowship while attending the University of Arkansas.

Outside of his academic career, Garrett enjoys spending time with his family exploring Idaho. On any given weekend, you might find them skiing at Bogus Basin, fly-fishing on the Boise River, biking through the foothills, or just enjoying one of the many fantastic parks around Boise.
