Executive MBA Opportunities

Student Profile: Full-time, working professionals with 12+ years of management experience. These students are C-level executives, Directors and VP’s with high level experience and insights.

Community Project

A non-profit community organization presents a general problem for research, analysis and recommendation by highly experienced professionals in the Treasure Valley. Previous problems included: attracting new donors, diversifying revenue streams, and improving access/reach to resources.

  • Timeline: Spring semester, approx 2 month project.
  • Format: One organization works with one full class (20-25 students), divided into teams, working on the same project.
  • Commitment: 1-2 representatives from your organization will be asked to introduce the challenge, answer questions and then attend presentations during a morning (weekday) session.

International Project

A business of any size will partner with an Executive MBA team to work towards a goal of sourcing or selling in international markets (primarily Vietnam / Asia). Students travel to Vietnam, where we have strong partnerships with the university, government and business community. Students will prepare prior to the trip and then spend approximately two days on-the-ground in Vietnam, primarily making relationships and gathering information. Previous projects led to factory tours where potential suppliers were interviewed or discussions with distributors regarding sales channels. 

  • Timeline: Fall semester, approx. 2 month project.
  • Format: One organization works with one team (4-5 students).
  • Commitment: Saturday morning in-class (3 hrs) meeting with assigned team. Zoom meetings as needed. Culminating with a report/recommendation given to organization (e.g. introduction to factory contacts and analysis of choices). 

Capstone Consultancy Project

This project is the marquee of the Executive MBA program and has resulted in significant gains for businesses across the country. Ideal projects are strategic in nature and tackle a large, complex problem. Participants are given full access to company financials and operating information following the signing of an NDA. This project requires access to stakeholders at the ownership / executive / board level. Much like hiring a top consultancy firm, teams dive deep into a company to produce impactful recommendations and analysis. Examples of past projects: 

  1. A major consumer products manufacturer determines if they should cancel or invest in an existing B2B line. 
  2. A consumer beef producer wondering if they should launch a branded product in a traditionally non-branded space.
  3. A medium-sized tech company evaluates an acquisition opportunity.
  4. A non-profit organization needs a 5-yr strategic plan.
  • Timeline: Spring semester, approx. 4 month project.
  • Format: One organization works with one team (4-5 students).
  • Commitment: 1-2 representatives from your organization will be asked to introduce the challenge, answer questions and serve as an ongoing resource for feedback and check-ins. Culminating presentation to executive leadership, owners and/or board members. All teams have faculty mentor(s) assisting with the project.
