FAQs
Basic Overview
What is academic advising?
Academic advising involves guiding high school students who are taking college-level courses to ensure they meet both high school and college requirements. Students typically meet with academic advisors once a year, but they are encouraged to reach out whenever they need assistance. Advisors help students select appropriate courses, understand academic expectations, and plan future educational and career goals.
What is Bronco Navigate?
Bronco Navigate is a program within Concurrent Enrollment where students have the opportunity to get a head start on their college journey with the help of academic advisors. Students have the option to choose an advising pathway, such as 15 to Start, 30 to Start, or general advising, where they will receive individualized support from academic advisors while working toward earning college credits.
Will taking concurrent credits help students graduate college early?
Boise State degree requirements vary depending on the degree type and major. Taking dual credits in high school allows students to fulfil some requirements, but does not guarantee that they will graduate college early. Review the Boise State Undergraduate Catalog to see how dual credit courses fit within a Bachelor’s Degree at Boise State.
What is the difference between a drop and withdrawal?
If a student drops a course before the term drop deadline, the course is removed from their Boise State transcript and course fees are removed from their Boise State account. There is no impact on a student’s future use of Advanced Opportunities funding.
If a student drops a course after the term drop deadline, the course remains on their transcript and they earn a grade of ‘W’ for withdrawal. Course fees are not removed from their Boise State account, and they are responsible for paying them with either Advanced Opportunities funding or directly out of pocket. If a student receives a ‘W’ (or ‘F’) on their transcript for any course that Advanced Opportunities funding covered, a flag is placed on their funding. Students can also receive a flag on their funding if they fail an exam that they used Advanced Opportunities funding to pay for. To resume funding, students are required to pay for and successfully earn credit for one like course or exam to remove the flag.
Visit the Drop a Concurrent Enrollment Course web page to fill out the Drop/Withdrawal Form. See the Dates and Deadlines web page for drop and withdrawal deadlines for the current semester.
How do I know what courses to take for the degrees that I will be considering?
Your Concurrent Enrollment academic advisor will be able to provide guidance on what courses you should be taking for a specific major. You can also view the Boise State course catalog to identify the course requirements for each major.Â
Are the same general education courses required for different majors?
Yes, the same general education courses are required for all majors. However, there might be specific courses that are required for a specific degree. Your Concurrent Enrollment academic advisor will be able to provide guidance on those general education courses.
Why is it necessary to meet with a Concurrent Enrollment academic advisor?
Most dual credit courses that colleges offer will count toward a number of college credits, but they may not fulfill requirements for a specific major or help students achieve their college goals. Students will meet with an academic advisor to develop a personalized degree plan that fits their degree choice and personal goals based on the courses available at their high school. The degree plan will ensure that courses students take while in high school will apply seamlessly toward a degree at Boise State University.

Advising Pathway Overview
How do I begin participating in a Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway?
Students interested in a Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway should complete the online application by the posted deadline. After the application is received the student will receive an email from Concurrent Enrollment regarding the status of the application. If the student has met the minimum requirements the student will receive an email inviting them to schedule an initial advising session with a Concurrent Enrollment Academic Advisor. Parent(s) or guardian(s) are encouraged to attend the advising sessions. Students who are not eligible to participate will be notified.
Visit our 30 to Start web page for additional details on participating in the 30 to Start Advising Pathway.
Visit our 15 to Start web page for additional details on participating in the 15 to Start Advising Pathway.
If I participate in the 15 or 30 to Start Advising Pathway, may I earn more than the required number of credits in high school?
Yes, the Bronco Navigate Advising Pathways require at a minimum of 15 credits to be completed for the 15 to Start and a minimum of 30 credits for the 30 to Start Start Advising Pathway to be considered completed, but students are not limited to the minimum credit requirements. Boise State’s Concurrent Enrollment advisors can help determine appropriate classes and number of credits based on your academic goals.
What if I only wish to enroll in a few Concurrent Enrollment courses?
Boise State offers individual advising sessions to all Concurrent Enrollment students on selecting and registering for courses, applying for state funding, transferring credits, and understanding how Concurrent Enrollment courses will apply to a college degree. For students looking to enroll in only a few Concurrent Enrollment courses, general advising would most likely be a better option, rather than the 15 to Start or 30 to Start Advising Pathway. To schedule a general advising session contact ceadvising@boisestate.edu.
Do all forms of college credit count towards the Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway credit goal?
No, not all college credits will count towards overall credit requirements for the specific Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway. Credits eligible for the 15 to Start and 30 to Start Advising Pathway include transferable concurrent credit/dual credit courses offered from Boise State and other colleges, transfer courses, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Idaho Digital Learning Alliance (IDLA), and CLEP tests. Your Boise State Concurrent Enrollment academic advisor will help you determine which college credits will count towards your overall credit requirement.
Can I change my degree path/major during participation in an Advising Pathway?
Yes, we understand that you may not know which degree/major you want to pursue when you begin participating in the 15 or 30 to Start Advising Pathway. A Concurrent Enrollment advisor will help you choose courses that satisfy general education requirements that apply to multiple majors at Boise State. They will also help you adjust your degree plan to fit to a major that is different from the major you originally selected.
Can I voluntarily withdraw from a Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway?
Yes, you can contact your Concurrent Enrollment advisor to withdraw from your Advising Pathway. You are not penalized if you don’t complete the 15 or 30-credit goal and you still get to keep the college credits that you have already earned.
What happens if I do not complete the requirements in the Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway and get withdrawn?
Students who do not complete the requirements to maintain in good standing with their Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway will be withdrawn. Students can request to be considered for reinstatement to the Bronco Navigate Advising Pathway by emailing ceadvising@boisestate.edu. Further instructions regarding the process for reinstatement will be provided based on the specific reason for withdrawal from the advising pathway.
