i-STEM Program: Empowering Idaho Educators in STEM Education

Opportunity, Goals, & Objectives

The primary aim of the i-STEM program is to equip Idaho educators with robust STEM content knowledge and effective pedagogical skills. Through this initiative, educators are empowered to foster local communities of learning, igniting student excitement and interest in STEM fields.

Description

i-STEM serves as a comprehensive summer professional development opportunity tailored for educators spanning from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade, encompassing both traditional classroom settings and informal educational environments. Throughout the Institute, participants engage in specialized strands focusing on project-based, hands-on learning within their chosen content area. These strands are complemented by overarching sessions aligned with the annual theme of the Institute. The thematic focus for i-STEM 2024 is “STEM Leaders: Launching a STEM Identity.”

Participants benefit from a tailored experience, receiving a kit of instructional materials specific to their selected strand. This enables them to seamlessly integrate newly acquired knowledge and strategies into their respective teaching environments.

Encouraging Collaborative Learning

A distinctive aspect of the i-STEM program is its encouragement of collaborative learning experiences. Educators are urged to attend the Institute alongside colleagues from their own educational institutions—be it schools, districts, or organizations. This collaborative approach facilitates shared learning, idea exchange, and the collective implementation of innovative pedagogical practices. By fostering a culture of collaboration, i-STEM cultivates a supportive network that enhances professional growth and ultimately enriches the educational landscape in Idaho.
