Expertise & Research

The Wind Tunnel and Jet Engine Research Laboratory at ISU’s MCERC houses a Westinghouse J-34, 11 stage axial compressor, single spool jet engine as well as a Lycoming T53 5-stage axial compressor/1 stage centrifugal compressor jet engine. In addition to the two jet engines, a 2 feet diameter 10 hp wind tunnel is available for testing. The wind tunnel features a variable speed drive. Current research at this laboratory address issues in flow control of axial compressors, flow analysis and modeling, rotating stall and surge characterization, prediction, and control in axial compressors, as well as overall control of jet engines. Along with the other MCERC research laboratories, we welcome new academic and industrial projects.
