Educational Resources

Data generated in the DCEW present excellent opportunities for hydrologic education. The exercises below provide instructions on how to access DCEW data to solve basic and advanced hydrologic problems. Most exercises have elements suitable for sophomore-level science and engineering students, with links to advanced topics suitable for upper division and graduate students. Exercises are often linked (results from one exercise provide data for another), thereby providing continuity as students progress through courses and degrees.

Topical Modules with suggestions for
data exploration:

  • Soil water storage
  • Spatial variability of mountain snow*
  • Precipitation frequency analysis*
  • Streamflow frequency analysis, flow duration curves*
  • Surface energy balance*
