Tutor Considerations

There are many valid reasons for a tutor preference, including comfort, perceived safety, cultural background, or a desire for a same-gender role model. Briefly describe, to your comfort level, any preferences or concerns about the tutor you would be paired with.

By requesting a tutor I understand:

1. TRIO ACES will make its best effort to find a qualified tutor, however, one-on-one tutoring is based on tutor availability.
2. In person tutoring may not be warranted depending on my class, the estimated hourly need, and tutor availability.
3. I am committed to receiving tutoring each week. Scheduled tutor sessions are times that my tutor will have set aside to be with me and receive payment from program funds. I realize that my absence for scheduled tutor sessions results in lost wages for my tutor. If it becomes clear that I do not need tutoring, or if I need less tutoring each week, then I will contact TRIO ACES immediately to let them know.
4. It is my responsibility to bring specific questions to my tutoring appointment. My tutor’s job is to help guide my understanding of the course material and to share strategies to help me learn and study more effectively.
5. My tutor is not a substitute for the professor and will not complete any assignments, essays, or quizzes/tests for me.
6. Tutoring must take place on campus in public areas, online, or through asynchronous communication methods agreed upon with tutor and approved by the tutor coordinator.
7. Any issues not directly related to tutoring must be brought to the attention of my TRIO ACES Coach, and not my tutor.
8. If I drop my class, I must notify my tutor and TRIO ACES immediately.
9. I will check my Boise State email for updates and further instructions. Failure to respond to these emails in a timely manner will result in the cancellation of my tutor request.
10. If accommodations are needed for tutoring sessions, it is my responsibility to submit requests to the Educational Access Center or my assigned Access Coordinator in a timely manner.
