Congratulations to Alaska native Maddy Whitethorn on her H. Westerman Whillock Award of $3,880! Maddy is a member of the Honors College and a full-time student pursuing a career in the healthcare field and is feeling grateful for the opportunity this scholarship will provide. She will be able to work less and become more involved on campus; something she was missing this year. Maddy is, “looking forward to having more time on my hands to put towards hobbies and meeting new people,” some of which she is hoping to do through TRIO. Maddy already joined a group of TRIO STEM Scholars at the Rec Center for Rock Climbing this past semester.
Maddy’s advice for applying to scholarships is, “Go For It! When in doubt about scholarships, take the time and apply anyway. Be very purposeful with any additional writing statements/essay questions as scholarship committees get to know who you are in this section!”
