Intern Teachers Attend Seminar on Social Emotional Learning and School Safety

Boise State Fall 2019 intern teachers working with the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework that identifies the Five Core Competencies in social emotional learning.

Last week, Boise State intern teachers attended a seminar focused on social emotional learning and school safety. Intern teachers engaged in hands-on learning activities using the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) framework that defines the ‘Five Core Competencies’ in social emotional learning.

Brian Armes from the Idaho Department of School Safety spoke to the teacher candidates about their role as first responders in their future classrooms. Loren Bailly, a Poverty Coach from the Donna Beegle Poverty Institute, presented on the importance of breaking down poverty barriers to education with trauma-informed instruction, and the social emotional learning connections.

Over 60 intern teachers across teacher education programs were in attendance.
