Art Education teacher candidates featured in online BFA art exhibition

Teacher candidates in art education Keyra Faler, Ezra Johnson and Miranda Stansbery’s culminating art projects were featured in the Spring 2020 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition held online this year due to Boise State’s campus closure.

The ongoing online exhibition features work from 16 students graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, including art education majors who will finish their student teaching in the fall and graduate in December.

Johnson’s singular work in the exhibition, Face(t), was created with pastel on paper. “This is a work examining the complexity of humanity through a study in simplification,” said Johnson in his artist statement. “The use of hard edges and plane changes make it simpler, but it appears to have many parts, referencing the fact that every human being has a complicated mix of experiences, emotions, and knowledge within them.”

Stansbery’s work consists of artist’s books whose pages are paper cutouts in the shape of hospital drip bags and painted with watercolor. Her exhibition also features another painted book in the shape of a bandage. In her artist statement Stansbery explained, “The pair of works presented as part of this exhibition detail two separate spaces and experiences relating to a childhood cancer diagnosis.”

Faler’s body of work in the exhibition consists of linocut prints on paper. “My work points to the idea of self, and where one might fit into the world,” Faler said in her artist statement. “I ask the viewer to consider its permanence.”
