Dismuke shares Boise State’s commitment to teacher retention

Sherry Dismuke, assistant dean of teacher education, spoke with Idaho Ed News recently about teacher retention issues in Idaho, and what the teacher education program in the College of Education is doing to help keep teachers in their classrooms.

Despite education programs graduating enough certified teachers for the state, vacancy and retention issues persist due to the demands of the job and external factors, and many school districts are forced to hire teachers before they’re finished with their college programs.

One way the College of Education at Boise State aims to keep new teachers on the job is by offering a faculty supported post-graduation retention program designed specifically for the unique challenges new teachers face in the classroom.
