Gabriel “Gil” Reynolds to compete alongside pros at tourament

Varsity Rocket League player Gabriel “Gil” Reynolds qualified to compete in the Immortals Progressive Bundle Bash tournament. This prestigious event gives collage players the opportunity to do what many collegiate athletes dream of, competing alongside professionals. The tournament takes place over 3 events in 2023, with the first event taking place April 20th to April 23rd.

Immortals Progressive Bundle Bash

The Immortals Progressive Bundle Bash is an event where 16 professional players from the RLCS (Rocket League Championship Series), draft teams from a pool of 32 collegiate players who have competed in CRL (Collegiate Rocket League). This would be akin to a colligate football players getting invited to compete alongside NFL players, or collegiate baseball players playing with MLB pros. Each team competes for a chance at a $10,000 prize pool. More importantly, collegiate players get the chance for recognition within the professional Rocket League ecosystem. Attendance for players is by invitation only for high level play in CRL and each of the three events send different invitations to different players.

In an interview, Reynolds was excited to compete in an event with such prestige. However, like the best college students, he views this tournament as a learning opportunity first and foremost.

“Obviously there is some decent money on the line which is always motivating,” said Reynolds. “But I’m really looking forward to the improvement. There is a lot of high level talent in this tournament and I am really excited to get experience from these matches.”

A Year of Achievements

This event caps off what has been an incredible academic year for Reyonlds. He, along with teammates Emiliano Flores and Kyle Ady, have had an incredible performance in a number of prestigious tournaments. Instead of competing in one league, Esports players compete in multiple tournaments run by multiple organizations throughout the year. Firstly, they had a great showing in the CECC (Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup). They won the CECC West Regionals in March and will travel to the Commissioners Cup nationals in Arlington, TX later this year. The team had in impressive run in CRL’s Fall and Spring seasons, and qualified for CRL Nationals taking place this summer. And Gil himself earned NACE’s (National Association of Collegiate Esports) All-American Award for his contributions as an individual player.

During this whirlwind of activity, Reynolds is still maintaining a healthy academic, competitive, and lifestyle balance. He is making time this summer to head back to his hometown in Minnesota and spend time with family. Watching movies with his family is first on the list of summer actives for him.

Those wishing to spectate the Immortals Progressive Bundle Bash and cheer on Gil can do so at http://twitch.tv/CollegeCarball through April 20th-23rd. And fans of Gil in general can always tune into Boise State Esport’s Youtube page for all of Boise State’s Rocket League matches!
