Overview Exchange Visitor Program & J-1 visa

We welcome scholars from all over the world to enhance learning and research through temporary, collaborative activities with our university.

The Exchange Visitor Program is designed to bring international scholars, researchers, professors and specialists to the United States for a variety of educational and cultural exchange purposes using the J-1 exchange visa.  The purpose of the J-1 visa is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the US and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges.

A specific academic department sponsors and hosts a visiting scholar.  You can learn more about the departments at Boise State, including areas of teaching and research, by accessing department websites.

Boise State University can invite participants in the categories of Research Scholar, Professor, Short-term Scholar, and Specialist.  Each category covers a particular type of activity and duration of visit.
