Educator Degree Track
For social studies and history secondary educators – Complete a program of professional development in advanced history that includes practicum labs to enhance your teaching. This degree track is only ONLINE remote synchronous because we believe many full time teachers who could benefit from this cannot physically attend our university. It is remote synchronous because we feel students need to make a connection with fellow students and instructors and undergo a shared experience.
A unique feature is the 1 credit lab component attached to each class, taught by an award winning Idaho Master Teacher working in the field at a high school. All students in the Educator Track take the same lab class each semester. So even if students are in separate classes they will see each other in the lab class where the instructor will help integrate what is being learned into current classes the student may be teaching in their regular teaching job.
The Educator Track is designed so that a working teacher in secondary education could attend remotely after school hours one class at a time (3 credit class plus the 1 credit lab). This will allow for a focus on the one class and not overload a full time teacher in the field. The program is designed to be completed in 3 years (including a short summer session). The degree requires 24 credits of classes, 8 credits of Lab, and 1 credit of Portfolio in the final summer session. The Portfolio will be a demonstration of the student’s advanced skills in curriculum development.
