Purpose

The Assistant Manager will work with the Cycle Learning Center Manager in overseeing daily shop operations and programs. They will assist in the supervision of 12 student staff and manage operations of the retail floor, repair workshop, rental program, and new and used bicycle inventory.  There are opportunities to implement and lead activities such as public repair workshops, group rides, cycling 101 classes, and more. As the ridership of Boise State University grows and develops into a true bicycle culture, there are endless avenues to input creative programming that pertain to the world of cycling.

Level Scope

Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years professional experience.

Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities

60% of Time the Assistant Manager, Cycle Learning Center must:

  • Plans and coordinates a variety of special administrative projects and assignments.
  • Renews job knowledge by reading professional journals, participating in education opportunities, and belonging to professional organizations.
  • Represents the Department and the Division in select working groups, committees, and partnerships, both internal and external to the University.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential matters and informations.
  • Perform the duties of a bicycle mechanic educator and trainer of new employees.
  • Tracking and evaluating learning outcomes.
  • Implement efficiency systems for shop operations.
  • Supervise the daily operations of the Cycle Learning Center workshop including being responsible for safety protocols.
  • Manage the Retail floor including the supervision of the Bicycle Rental Program for Boise State University.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Some positions may involve frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; some positions may involve moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 70 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; working in all weather conditions; exposure to high noise levels and require wearing hearing protection.
