Media Communications students specialize their competencies and skills by emphasizing their studies in either integrated media or strategic communications.

Emphasis Areas

JOURNALISM

The Journalism Emphasis prepares students for a variety of journalistic careers, rough experiential learning. Students develop communications, critical thinking, reporting, copy editing, storytelling, and time management skills while exploring journalism and journalistic practices.

PRODUCTION

The Production Emphasis prepares students for a number of media careers. Students work both individually and in teams while exploring journalism, live broadcast, digital media production, media content creation, and studio television.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Public Relations Emphasis explores theories and practices used in professional communications. Students develop their skills through experiential learning and applied projects, graduating with a professional portfolio of work.

SOCIAL MEDIA

The Social Media Emphasis prepares students for a number of strategic communications careers. Students develop content creation and social media management skills through experiential learning and explore theories and best practices related to social media.

SPORTS

The Sports Emphasis prepares students for a variety of communications careers in sports. Students develop their skills as communicators as sports announcers and broadcasters, sports photographers, sports writers, content creators and coordinators.
