Planning and Assistance
The content on this page is provided as a quick reference for planning. All official admission standards are published on the Undergraduate Catalog site.
We evaluate candidates through a two-step admissions process which includes GPA requirements and interviews. Admission is competitive, so to help you do your best, we offer supportive advising, pre-nursing admissions workshops, and practice interviews. Contact the pre-nursing advising team to learn more.
Applicants may seek accommodation support through the Educational Access Center. This process must be initiated 30 days in advance of the application due date.
Application Deadlines
Note: Completed applications must be received on or before the deadline for admission consideration. A valid credit card is required to submit the $20.00 application fee.

Pre-requisite requirements
Please carefully review the pre-requisite requirements to ensure you
have met all the course and grade qualifications. Please note: there are no exceptions to these prerequisites.
If you have already been admitted to Boise State, we already have your transcript information.
Exceptions are:
- Courses taken at a college/university other than Boise State since you applied. In that case, please make sure you submit these transcripts to the admissions office.
- Courses that may be In Progress Upon Applying. If you are accepted to the nursing program, your admission will be conditional pending verification that your final grade in each course is a C or above.
Transcripts for these courses will need to be submitted to the admissions office by May 30th if starting in the Fall or December 30th if starting in Spring.
All pre-requisite courses are required to be equivalent to Boise State University courses.
- If you are not sure if your course is equivalent, please check using the Transfer Equivalency System (TES)
- You may also contact a member of the pre-nursing advising team
Additional requirements
- If you have previously attended a Nursing School other than Boise State, a letter of good standing is required. You will be asked to upload this documentation during the application process.

Phase I and II
There are two phases of the application process. Both of these phases require that you have timely access to your Boise State email.
- Phase I: Successfully submitting the online application. You will receive a confirmation email. You must also pay the application fee during the application process. You will receive a confirmation email from the payment site.
- Phase II: If it has been determined that you have satisfactorily met all pre-requisites, you will be selected for Phase II of the application process. You will receive an email from kiratalent.com inviting you to set up your account with them. Please be sure to add no-reply@kiratalent.com to your address book to ensure your invite does not go to spam.
- Your account will be open for you to practice the interview process. Interviews give you a chance to share your perspective and reasons for applying.
- If you have not been selected for Phase II, we will notify you via NursingAdmissions@BoiseState.edu.
Please allow 4-8 weeks from the Phase II deadline for processing and acceptance decisions.
Please check your Boise State email daily. You will be notified of your application status via your Boise State Student email. Any further instructions or requests for missing/additional materials will be sent to your Boise State Student email.
After you are accepted
Orientation
Both a mandatory pre-orientation zoom session and an in-person orientation is required prior to the beginning of classes. The pre-orientation zoom session will take place around the time of registration. The in-person takes place on the Friday before classes begin and is usually 6-7 hours long.
Background Checks
Background Checks are required before entering clinical facilities. Students are required to repeat the background check process prior to each semester by pre-announced dates. The fee for these criminal background checks is your financial responsibility. If the criminal background check indicates a criminal history, you may be required to withdraw from the School of Nursing.
You will be given information about when and where to complete your background check in your acceptance materials. You must utilize the company we indicate to complete your background check. For more complete information please refer to the Undergraduate Clinical Compliance policy (UG-07).
Health Requirements
You must meet certain health requirements to enter clinical facilities. The fees for meeting these health requirements are your financial responsibility. If new students are unable to successfully complete the requirements by identified deadlines, they will be dismissed from the Program.
Transcripts
Transcripts are required as proof of completion and documentation of a passing grade (“C” or better) for “In Progress” course(s), by May 30 if starting in Fall or December 30 if starting in Spring.
Information for transfer students
The Pre-License program does not generally accept transfer students mid-program. For situations involving major life circumstances requiring transfer (ex. military transfer, medical treatment, etc) please contact student services for consideration.
If you complete the required pre-nursing coursework at another school, please review the following before you apply to the nursing program:
- Use the Transfer Equivalency System (TES) tool to confirm that the courses you take/have taken at another school are eligible to transfer to Boise State and that they meet pre-nursing requirements.
- Confirm with a transfer or academic advisor that you meet required general education course requirements.
- Apply to Boise State for admission as a transfer student prior to submitting your application to the nursing program. You will be required to have a Boise State email address and student ID in order to complete your application. We also encourage you to consult with an academic advisor to confirm that you meet all pre-nursing requirements.
Information for 2nd degree seeking students
Applicants to the nursing program who have already earned a bachelor’s degree and are applying to complete a 2nd degree in nursing should review their transcripts with an academic advisor.
It is important to determine which courses from a previous degree(s) meet pre-nursing course requirements and whether additional prerequisites must be completed before applying to the nursing program.
