How to reimagine work by building resilience and focus

Amid the challenges posed by the pandemic and subsequent Great Resignation, this workshop steps you through the Design Thinking process (empathy, define, ideate, prototype, test) to empower you to map micro-changes that will enable you and/or your employees to reimagine work and improve focus. This workshop will be facilitated by two higher education experts in Design Thinking who bring their insights about younger generations entering the workforce.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:

  • Understand and use the principles of the Design Thinking framework to plan your work life.
  • Reframe your work story to better match your values and strengths.
  • Identify moments of flow and energy in your work.
  • Create an actionable blueprint for more energized workday(s).
  • Build resilience by empowering micro-changes.
  • Create a plan to put your blueprint into action.

In the wake of the Great Resignation and disruptive social and economic conditions, your or your employees’ ability to show up and be fully present at work has never been more challenged. This workshop helps you apply the Design Thinking framework – used by engineers and designers yet applicable to any workplace – to align employees’ focus with their values and strengths in order to energize the new ways we work.

Presenters

Elizabeth Barnes

Elizabeth Lester Barnes, MFA is a lecturer at Boise State University and a Writer In The Schools for The Cabin. She was the South Boise Village Neighborhood Association President, a Faculty Associate for Service-Learning at the Center of Teaching and Learning at Boise State University, and she is currently on the board of Compassionate Communities. She is a Narrative 4 Story facilitator and utilizes both story and Design Thinking in her teaching and consulting. She Co-founded Academic Mamas at Boise State and is committed to Community-Engaged learning and bringing people together to build a resilient and connected future. When not teaching, she can be found adventuring around the world with her husband and kids.

Jill Heney

In her teaching and consulting, Jill Heney, lecturer at Boise State University, values creating optimal learning environments that support others as they develop their creativity, writing, and life design. She holds degrees from the University of Nebraska-Kearney (English Teaching) and Boise State University (MA in English) and currently is earning a Certificate in Creativity and Design Thinking from Stanford University’s School of Engineering. She enjoys collaborating with students, colleagues and community members on endeavors such as their recently completed National Science Foundation project, “Improving Workforce Communication and Listening Skills Through Documenting Oral Histories of Idaho’s Sagebrush Steppe.” She enjoys a University Foundations course dedicated to helping students design their lives through Stanford’s Designing Your Life framework which provides methods for courageously charting one’s next steps personally and professionally.
